well - i've been asked "why chicken feet?" a lot today.
nixon, the model was a finalist in a horror reality tv contest last year and had to buy an outfit for a night on the town - they gave her $200 and sent her to a costume shop. she bought a red dress, 6ft red latex wings, a burn makeup kit and the chicken feet. she went as "Ashley the incompetent phoenix". "omg, my name is ashley, i'm from des moines and i'm a phoenix...i'm not very good at the whole fire thing and keep getting burned..." (you get the idea - it was quite cute)
the joke is when she went to pay for them, she said, "i'll take these chicken feet" and the guy at the shop said, "oh no - they are chicken hands" and he points to the packaging that reads "latex chicken hands". and nixon very politely replied, "chickens don't have hands, so these are chicken feet regardess of what the packaging may read."
i had to shoot background images for a web content set and we shot 9 setups in and around my apartment. this was one of them. we loved the shot and decided to use it outside of the set.
and that's the story behind the shot.
